Unreal

Alien Spacecraft was an Unreal map or series of maps using the white Starship textures. It was a part of the game around 1996-early 1997. It was cut and was never recovered.

Overview[]

An early description of the map is as follows:

"Levels 9-11

The maintenance robots of this ancient crashed ship are the only thing which still functions within this craft. In their attempt to repair the ship, they have search and retrieve any technology they could. This includes 3 of the Artifacts needed for the Altar of Chaos. The artifacts are scattered about the ship used in ways that are obviously intended to repair the ship. The outside view of the ship, shows the ship crashed into and lying mostly on top of a small temple. The temple is accessible from within the ship. In the Temple is a station which transforms the player into a Skaarj Hawk. This allows access to the Sky City.

The player will find quadshot (this will be the first time they find it), flamethrower and Impaler.
The player will encounter both robot types, the turret and the sentry droid"

The map may have been recycled in a later design doc under the name "Nemo":

"MAP NAME: This map is called Nemo. It uses the Starship texture set.

MAP THEME: Nemo is the name of the starship of an aquatic race of aliens that had crashed on the planet. Their technology although sophisticated, was crude in fashion. I want to give every element in their ship (i.e., their technology, architecture, etc.) a "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" look, with an emphasis on giving it an old submarine style.

MAP STORYLINE: Like, everyone else who has crashed on the planet, these aliens came too close to the planet and fell victim to its Bermuda Triangle effects. They were one of many scout ships sent out from their homeworld in search on a new planet to colonize due to the eventual destruction of their homeworld. Their planet’s oceans, which is the race’s natural habit, were evaporating due to climatic changes brought on by years of industrial pollution.

MAP CONSTRUCTION: This map will have a continuing theme of domes and dome-like shapes throughout its architecture. I plan on making use of hatch/pod style domes and doors that open and close like accordions (i.e. the sections fold inside each other). Since the race is based in the water, this ship will contain numerous areas that are only accessible to the player by swimming. This scout ship will be more long than it is wide, and there will be a good sense of vertical height to help give the player a feeling of being in an ancient submarine.

MAP GAMEPLAY: This map will be fairly populated with alien creatures that have taken up shelter in the remains of this crashed ship. The player will have to carefully avoid or navigate through the various nest and dens of the beasts which will defend the territory that they’ve staked out for themselves."

While other ideas (ship crashed into a temple that leads to SkyCity) seem to have eventually turned into the Trench, ISV-Kran and the way to Na Pali Haven.

Finally, very late in development, the white textures have made a comeback as part of ISV-Kran Deck 1.

Trivia[]

  • Alien Spacecraft used a different version of the Isotoxin song that still included the intro.
