Overview |
BR-BridgeOfFate is a Bombing Run map from Unreal Tournament 2004.
Map description[]

An adaptation of CTF-BridgeOfFate that ditches the lateral base corridors, so all the action takes place in the base areas. However, the three bridges are still there. Much like its counterpart, Bridge of Fate is a large map set in a moody cavern. The two bases are divided by a large canyon that runs through the middle of the map. There are 3 bridges that cross this canyon, one of which is broken, but the gap can be jumped over. The bases feature an enormous hall with sky-high pillars and a few other, smaller rooms. There is virtually no z-axis gameplay here, apart from the Goal room and the area in/around the canyon.
The bomb spawns in the middle of the middle bridge. Reaching the opponent's goal is as easy as walking forward in a straight line. However, due to the large rooms in the map and the multiple entrances, a variety of routes is available. The Goal rooms are all the way in the back of the base. The Goal is placed on a higher platform, so the carrier has to walk up a few small stairs, and around the goal, to score a 7-pointer.
Named areas of the map include:
- Cave: The middle chasm that separates the two bases, except for the three bridges (we'll name them West Bridge -the one that's mostly intact-, Center Bridge and East Bridge -the one broken in the middle- for easiness of description).
- Blue/Red Armor Entrance: One of two side entrances featuring long staircases, the eponymous armor is the Super Shield Pack located outside of it in the cave, surrounded by some Adrenaline pills.
- Note that the base entrances for each team is the opposite, i.e. the Blue Armor Entrance is connected with the Red Bio Entrance and viceversa.
- Blue/Red Main Entrance: The middle entrance to the base.
- Blue/Red BioRifle Entrance: The entrance to the base opposite to the one from armor, it's directly tied to the central entrance by way of stairs. Much like the Armor entrance, the eponymous weapon is located outside of it in the Cave.
- Blue/Red Pillar Room: The main area of play in each base, as its name implies it's full of pillars that act as cover from enemy fire.
- Blue/Red Bomb Room: A long hallway located at the extreme opposite in each base, contains three entrances from the Hall of Pillars, and the goal is located on top of a ledge, on foot accessible via nearby stairs.

Trivia[]
- In spite of the map being made after UT2003, it still uses the term "Bomb" for its areas rather than "Ball".
Easter eggs[]
- Main article: Easter eggs
- References to other works:
- The map is modelled after an environment from The Lord of the Rings (more precisely, from the movies).
Localization errors and inconsistencies[]
- Spanish:
- One of the zone names ([ZoneInfo19]; "RED Main Entrance", "Entrada Principal ROJA") has its key messed up ("ocationName" instead of "LocationName") and, as a result, the name of the area it's tied to isn't translated.
Author's notes[]
In UT2003 you can throw the bomb ahead of yourself and then teleport to the same spot with the translocator without much delay. This made defending a base very hard. With small entrances the defenders have an easier time fighting against this.
Later I added the cave area as the new middle area, to make the map harder and a bit slower paced. The CTF version was modified even more with adding separate rooms on each of the pillar rooms, to make flag running easier. It created more hide and seek gameplay that way.
I was responsible for most of the layout / meshing / lighting and bug fixing."
