CTF-EpicBoy is a map appearing in Unreal Tournament.

Map description[]

The map consists of two facing sections of a large castle. The map is axially rotated, which means that the south entrance on the blue side becomes the north entrance on the red side, and the like. Although the game itself lacks location names for the map, several areas can be distinguished, starting with the most apparent: red base, center, and blue base.

The central area consists of a large Courtyard and a giant monolith in the center. Also within the area are two sniper balconies (one per side) overlooking it, along with two large walls that act as cover and hide an extra entrance to the base from snipers. This extra entrance (Red/Blue Side Entrance) is a C-shaped passage with a series of stairs ending in an exposed corner connecting the central area with the upper floor of the base.

In terms of the bases, each has a main entrance in addition to the side entrance, which consists of three cathedral-esque arches and leads to a large main room that holds a Redeemer in the middle (Blue/Red Redeemer Hall). Additionally, players may enter through the sniper balconies overlooking the midfield through use of the Translocator. The lower level has a series of pillars that serve as cover, some stairs leading to the flag, as well as some stairs on the north (red) or south (blue) side leading to a C-shaped hall surrounding the outer perimeter of the base (Blue/Red Upper Hallway) and connecting the lower level with the upper level. The upper level contains a C-shaped irregular ledge overlooking the Redeemer, which is connected to the Side Entrance and the sniper balcony. The flag lies in a small chamber at the end of the map (Blue/Red Flag Base), with two balconies in the Upper Hallway overlooking it.

Tips and tricks[]

  • As an attacker, you have to be creative with your entrances and exits. Use the Translocator to enter through one of the balconies and avoid staying in the main hall for too long, as this area often has heavy enemy presence.
  • Guarding the hallway to the right of the flag is a good way to deny your opponent the opportunity to escape through the upper levels, forcing them to expose themselves on the lower levels.

  • Unlike most Capture the Flag maps, this map has no location names. This was fixed in OldUnreal's v469 patch; however, for previous versions of the game, it is possible to add them yourself. Create a file named "CTF-EpicBoy.int" in the System folder of the game, and copy and paste the following text:
