"Prieth Callas was a hard, cruel man, fond of torturing his enemies before sending them to their deaths. He raised creatures of great size and ferocity, setting them against his prisoners in arenas of his own creation. Grendelkeep is the last of his diabolical constructions, left to fall into ruin after Callas was dragged from the battlements by his own men and fed to the creatures he bred in the dark kennels below. The rain has washed away the blood, but the evil that bred here has left a much deeper stain."

CTF-Grendelkeep (whose full name is Grendelkeep) is a map appearing in Unreal Tournament 2004 .



Map description Edit

A mirrored version of DM-DE-GrendelKeep. Red Base is located at the east of the map, and Blue Base at the west. The Great Amp Hall of the original serves as each team's flag bases, while the Upper Rocket Hall becomes the main spawning rooms, and the bases are connected at the upper and lower levels via the Lower Flak Rooms and Sniper Nests respectively. Aside from these changes and the addition of team-colored assets in each side, there's not a lot of significant changes. The following are the new names for the different areas:

  • Great Hall: Red/Blue Main Room
  • Great Room Hall (mid): Red/Blue Main Room
  • Great Amp Hall: Red/Blue Base
  • Upper Rocket Hall: Red/Blue Spawn
  • Mini Hall: Red/Blue Sniper Hall
  • Great Tower: Red/Blue Round Stairs
  • Sniper Nest: Center
  • Great Room Hall (south): Red/Blue Main Hall
  • Lower Flak Hall: Red/Blue Lower Flak Hall

Mission description

Prior to playing this map, you can switch the arena for CTF-Geothermal or CTF-Magma by paying 165 game units.

Tips and tricks Edit

  • You have countless of roads which interconnect at many points between both flags. Don't be obvious and mix routes.
  • While defending, one of the best places to stay is the Main Room Link Gun area. In this area you can watch practically every road, but you may have to abandon your position in order to get ammo for your guns, as the closest hitscan weapon from this location is the Shock Rifle in the lower level. Plus, you're exposed to weapon fire, so no safe hiding.
  • Once you reached your own team's base with the enemy flag, you have several hiding places where to hold while your teammates recover your team's flag. But be aware that attackers will find you easily if you hide in the Spawn area, as it's the first area enemies will look for.

Trivia Edit

  • Until the stats for the game were shut down, the map held the distinction of being the 32nd. most played UT2004 map of all-time, with nearly 76.000 matches.[1]
