Overview

If you're looking for other versions of the map, you might want to check Recurring maps#November.

The subject of this article appeared in Unreal Tournament 2004.

"After a somewhat failed renovation attempt, the Liandri Corporation authorized the restructuring and repair of facility 32356. Nearly 2 years later, the gates are open. Welcome to facility 32356-a code-named January!"
Map description

CTF-January is a Capture the Flag map from Unreal Tournament 2004. It's one of the stock maps.

Map description[]

January shares the same premise as CTF-November and CTF-December: two teams battle in a naval base with a submarine in the middle of the map. This map shares most of its layout with CTF-December, but there are some key differences in addition to the new weapon/item layout as a result of the changes:

  • The layout was greatly simplified.
  • Water is more prominent, akin to November.
  • The lower hallway and its lifts were replaced with a straightforward aquatic tunnel.
  • The bunkers were eliminated.
  • The doors leading to the flag bases were eliminated, so it's easy to see who's coming when defending the map.
  • There's no Double Damage. The one at the sub was replaced by a Super Shield Pack.

The map contains the following named areas:

  • Middle: The area formerly known as "Docks". Contains a different and more streamlined submarine than December.
  • Whenever you're swimming, you're under water. For explanation purposes, we're naming the central area Central pool and the underwater entrances Underwater Blue/Red.
  • Blue/Red Entrance Hall: Fills the same role as December, being the area that connects the Docks with the Entrance Stairs. Now it's larger and acts as the only upper entrance route to the base (via two entrances), much like November.
  • Blue/Red Platform: still unchanged, the only exception is located below the catwalk where there's now a water pool (Underwater Blue/Red).
  • Blue/Red Entrance Stairs: Fill the same function (connecting Entrance Hall with Foyer), but the stairs are now ramps.
  • Blue/Red Foyer: Still the same as in December, connecting the now-named Blue/Red Junction (which in December was the name for another area) and the Platform with the Entrance Stairs. There's no Shock Rifle in this area, though.
  • Blue/Red Junction: Formerly named "Blue/Red Pipe Exit" (said exit located in the area previously named "Blue/Red Junction". It now connects the Foyer, the Access Hall and the Flag Access with a new corridor named Blue/Red Pipe Exit that leads to the Blue/Red Bunker.
  • Blue/Red Doors (Left): Mostly the same as December, mostly unchanged.
  • Blue/Red Flag Access: Named "Blue/Red Doors (Right)" in December, consolidates both the Doors (Right) with the Flag Access areas into a single one.
  • Blue/Red Access Hall: A corridor. Still connects the Pipe Exit (Dec)/Junction (Jan) with the Junction (Dec)/Upper Flag Base (Jan).
  • Blue/Red Upper Flag Room: The area is mostly the same as it was in December, however the dropdown pipe is more accessible this time, as it's placed right in the middle of the path and allows flag carriers to find new escape routes when carrying the flag and choosing this room as an escape route.
  • Blue/Red Flag Base: Still looks the same as it did in December.

Trivia[]

  • A previous description of the map stated that the previous repair attempt before Liandri ordered the last one took place in 2358 and that it lasted three years, meaning that it would end in 2361, roughly a year before the (originally intended) events of the game in 2362.[1] However, the game's dates were later retconned, and the events of 2004 took place in 2303. A later patch fixed this mistake.
