Unreal

Chizra - Nali Water God is the sixth map of the single-player mode of Unreal.

Map description[]

This level features a watery temple in honor of Chizra, the Nali God of water. You have to make it out of the maze, by solving a series of puzzles on the way, helping out any Nali you come across and killing the Slith from water, and the Skaarj from ground. The main goal of this level is to obtain the "Stick of six fires", so the wall to the exit can lower.

Trivia[]

  • Levelshots for the map were added in the OldUnreal version 227j patch.

Development[]

  • The february beta version of the map combined it with The Ceremonial Chambers, as well as having less rooms in both parts.
  • The February beta lacks the teleporter room that brings you to the entrance of the ceremonial wing. This room was probably taken from Acerak and modified to suit Chizra better, as an "Acerak" lava version appears in The Ceremonial Chambers afterwards.
  • There are differences between the mover setups and behavior between the beta versions, there are many "stone bars" that get enclosed or are used as bridges. The lightning sequence wasn't there in the february beta leading to the room with crucified nali, instead the stones popped up from the wall and a barrier got opened slowly. The february beta also used many stone surfaces where later versions have them wooden.
  • An unseen beta version had a "shareware"/ante-chamber version of chizra, as well as older betas had exit leading to the passage pool instead directly (this exit is unused and still present in FHub1).
  • Also in the same unseen version, the Nali on the bridge was supposed to open a stone door before the entrance to Chizra, not just show you the entrance. This was changed so that it isn't too difficult and the map doesn't get soft-locked if the Nali gets killed, though its possible the later teleportation would bypass this anyways but would require all players to get to the teleporter.
  • The logs that swing back and forth used to be reusable and were much more treacherous in beta versions, forcing you to use the stepping stones in order to avoid being hit by them and taking damage. In the release version and the May beta, this mover is triggered once only.
  • The Nali that fears you in the released version is bugged and was intended to use a complex scripted sequence that had to have his attitude changed in order for it to work. He was supposed to get killed by the Slith later on at the cable car activation and gestured you upfront and ran up ahead without waiting for you to come to him like the other Nali. It was supposed to be a foolish and enthusiastic Nali that gets himself killed showing you a way (and the Shield Belt secret).
  • Some earlier/unseen beta versions had Slith in the pool instead of ASMD and Elite Kralls in the log/plank area.
  • The area with the blue torches with buttons and skaarjscout had a male body using the yellow skin (M1_Yellow), the team skin names got changed, thus later versions not having that skin assigned at all. The same area had spawning Mantas from the vents near ceiling in the February version.
  • The thunder pool area with the SCUBA Gear was missing in the February version. The room resembles somewhat Myscha's custom demo1 example map. In the February version there used to be just a stub room with SCUBA Gear, no big room.
