DM-Compressed is a Deathmatch map from Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2004. In both cases, it's one of the stock maps for both games.
Map description[]
This map is a symmetric battleground composed of two main arenas with a walkway surrounding them, one at each side, and a series of paths connecting them, including a secret hideout reachable by the two platforms that act as a connection between the upper and lower levels. Each arena also contains a suspended platform with goodies in them.
The map has the following named areas:
- Top Hall: Two upper level connections between both arenas, as well as the lower level via two platforms, one on each hall. For description purposes, since thes two corridors share the same name, we'll name them Top North Hall and Top South Hall.
- Left Annex: The arena located at the west of the map.
- Right Annex: The arena located at the east of the map.
- Lower Shield Hall: The lower level corridor that connects both arenas.
- Flakk Hall (UT2003)/Flak Hall (UT2004): The corridor in the middle level of the Right Annex that leads to the platform to the Top Hall.
- Link Hall: The corridor in the middle level of the Left Annex that leads to the platform to the Top Hall.
- Flakk Elevator: The elevator that connects the Flakk Hall with the Top North Hall.
- Link Elevator: The elevator that connects the Link Hall with the Top South Hall.
- UDamage Corridor: This unnamed area is the corridor that's only accessible via translocation or lift jumping. Contains the eponymous item.

Walkthrough[]

Tips and tricks[]
- Use a lift-jump to reach the UDamage Corridor in the middle of the map.
- With a bit of practice, you can use the lower-to-mid level platforms to reach the suspended platforms in the upper level.
Prima Official Guide[]
Elevators at the bottom of each column lead you to the spiral pathways. An elevator in one of the columns goes directly to the top.
Because the level is small enough to move quickly to any area, Compressed doesn't have many good sites for camping and sniping.
Every area can be considered a hot spot because they're all in the flow of traffic. The busy areas are near the elevators and in the corners adjacent to the hallways that connect the columns at the top.
The action in Compressed is fast and furious, favoring those who are equipped with short-range weapons that fire a wide spread of projectiles, such as the Minigun and Flak Cannon. The Rocket Launcher is an effective tool of destruction, but the narrow pathways and various obstructions pose the risk of accidentally hurting yourself with splash damage.
Stay at the top and on the pathways spiraling around each of the two vertical columns. Jumping into the bottom of the columns is almost always a mistake. It leaves you vulnerable to grenades and rockets.
The only enticement at the bottom is the Shield Pack +50 between the two vertical columns and the Health Vials +5 at the bottom of each column. It's a small bonus considering how easy it is to get stuck down there and be assaulted by enemies above you.
If you see an enemy at the bottom of a column, cover the elevator that leads up to the spiral pathway—it's the only way out of the bottom.
It never hurts to drop a grenade down a column every time you pass by. Maybe you'll hit someone foolish enough to be camping out down there.
At the very top of each of the two large, cylindrical areas are grated platforms. One has a Lighting Gun, and the other has a Super Shield Pack +100. You must double-jump onto them from the top of the level to reach them. Either of these platforms makes for a good sniper post."
Trivia[]
- The original idea that Scott McGregor had for the map made the cut for Championship, but it was eventually later released as a free download for 2003, in a collaboration with community member sparky.[1]
Popularity[]
- Main article: Annex:Unreal Tournament 2004 Final Stats
- Until the stats for the game were shut down, the map held the distinction of being the sixteenth most played UT2004 map of all-time, with nearly 170.000 matches.[2]
Location bugs[]
The UDamage Corridor and Link Elevator areas aren't named, and both Top Halls share the name. In order to fix this, create a file called DM-Compressed.int in the System folder with the following content:
