Walkthrough[]
Act V: Disposable Assets[]
The central feature of this level, both literally and figuratively - is the Invulnerability powerup. The rest of the match is a typical deathmatch. Akasha is better than the other bots you have faced, but not so much that you won't be able to beat her if you've already made it this far. If you don't know how to time the powerups, this is the mission that will teach you.
- Othello: "That Invulnerability Powerup is mine!"
- Reaper: "Just keep it away from Akasha."
They aren't kidding. Unlike previous missions, the object in this one is to get the powerup yourself and run directly at the enemy. Othello is good enough to hold his own without the powerup and it's dangerous to wait for him to grab it anyway. The bots don't 'understand' invulnerability. When a bot is invulnerable, the player knows to run away and avoid them until it expires (or to strip it with the impact hammer if you're quick). When the player is invulnerable, they know it's time to find the bots and spam them into oblivion. Do those things.
Certain kills with the Invulnerability powerup trigger a message from either Reaper or Akasha:
- Reaper (first frag): "For the Fallen!"
- Reaper (second and third frag): "Know that you have forced my hand in this."
- Reaper (fourth frag): "Twin Souls: Strength of the Fist!"
- Akasha (first frag): "Now, I am unstoppable!"
- Akasha (second frag): "Bring forth the reign of blood."
- Akasha (third frag): "I am the death bringer."
- Akasha (fourth frag): "I shall burn the flesh from your soul."
The Link Gun Alt-Fire is useful when you're invulnerable, as is the minigun - anything that the enemy can't effectively dodge. The rest of the time you'll want to use the Bio Rifle\Flak Cannon and move backwards while the enemies will try and pursue you through the hallways with line-of-sight based weapons. This mission goes up and down quite a bit. You may find yourself 10 points behind and then 10 points ahead, 5 points behind, 5 points ahead, etc. This is because of the auto-adjusting difficulty trying to account for you being invulnerable. Overall, this mission isn't harder than any other, you just need to keep track of the powerup.[1]
Tips and tricks[]
- The Invulnerability respawns every 109 seconds. when it respawns, it can be heard on the entire map. Be sure to get it or prepare to use the Impact Hammer's EMP mode to knock it off your opponent. You could also try to outrun your opponent until the Invulnerability wears off, but 30 seconds can be a very long time in such a situation. This map provides perhaps the best example of how the Impact Hammer's altfire can be useful.
Trivia[]
- Like DM-Sanctuary, a different audio cue was used for Reaper's third frag. While the Kismet editor shows the line "Line 'em up. Knock 'em down.", the sound cue for the second frag was used instead.
Easter eggs[]
- Main article: Easter eggs/Unreal Tournament 3
- The map has a "flyby" mode which you can go through by inputting the FlyThrough code in the console, at least in UnrealEd.
Localization errors and inconsistencies[]
- Spanish:
- One of the four random lines that Reaper may scream whenever he or Othello pick up the Invulnerability pickup is "Twin Souls! Strength of the Fist!". Much like WAR-Downtown, not only the delivery of this line doesn't have the same intensity as the English version (in fact, Reaper sounds bored when he says the line), but the line directly translates Twin Souls, i.e. a proper name that shouldn't be translated, into "Almas Gemelas".
- Akasha has two voicelines that are triggered at random whenever she picks up the Invulnerability, and the two are equally problematic: "Bring forth the rain of blood" (whose actual translation should be "Haced llover la sangre" or "Que llueva sangre") is mistranslated as "El Nanoblack limpará tu alma" ("Nanoblack will cleanse your soul", or even worse, "Nanoblack will clean your soul"), and "I am the deathbringer" (ideally "Yo traigo muerte") is mistranslated as "Te quitaré la vida" ("I'll kill/murder you"). The latter is also a problem in DM-Sentinel.
