"Fight in the Rrajigar mines."
Map description

DM-Rrajigar is a Deathmatch map from Unreal Tournament 2004.

Map description[]

Rrajigar is set in the Rrajigar mines on Na Pali. These are the same mines as those visited by Prisoner 849 during the time of Unreal. The map consists of a number of tight, winding halls and a few larger spaces. Tarydium crystals, the reason for the mines existence, can be seen growing from the walls.

The named areas of the map are as follows:

  • Machine Area: Located northwest of the map, recognizable by its generator and carts.
  • Waterfall: Located northeast of the map, as its name implies, it features a waterfall, with a cave going behind it ending in the upper level of the Machine Area. Recognizable by its plants.
  • Shield Area: Located southwest of the map, the namesake item (actually a Super Shield Pack) is located at the end of the current generated by the waterfall. A bridge goes above the item.
  • Shock Area: Located southeast of the map. The eponymous weapon is located in the upper level in a ledge next to a cave leading to the lower level.
  • River: The current that starts in the waterfall and ends where the Super Shield Pack is located.

Trivia[]

  • Opening the map in UnrealEd or using the ghost cheat in the Waterfall area reveal a hidden room of sorts with a mosaic of pictures with the author's name.
  • In his book, "The Hows and Whys of Level Design!, when discussing success and efficiency in the context of level design, Hourences mentions that he created "cavern" levels with fewer than 10 meshes and 5 tiling textures. This is one such a level, and this can be checked in UnrealEd.[1]

Popularity[]

Main article: Annex:Unreal Tournament 2004 Final Stats
  • Until the stats for the game were shut down, the map held the distinction of being the 60th. most played UT2004 map of all-time, with over 42.900 matches.[2]

Preview notes[]

"We played through a few deathmatch and CTF maps, and in terms of design, they featured settings like subterranean caverns and a mountainous area with Japanese-style buildings nearby. The previous game's maps had varied themes, designs, and visual presentations, and it looks like the maps in Unreal Tournament 2004 will follow suit."
