DmTundra

DmTundra (a.k.a. Tundra) is a Deathmatch map for Unreal.

Map description[]

DmTundra is a frozen temple set inside of a mountain. The temple itself is composed of a tower, a cave with a frozen pond, and a house with access to a water well. For description reasons, the different areas of the map will be named as follows:

Outside: The outer area of the map.
Tower: The big tower located east of the map. Contains an elevator to the upper level.
Frozen Pond: The pond located southeast of the map, contains a water pond surrounded by an ice column.
House: The house located south of the map. Contains the entrance to the...
Water Well: A well located at the very south. Contains a wooden, spinning, slow-moving elevator that returns the player to the corridor they came from.

All in all, one of the simplest maps to learn in the whole game.

Tips and tricks[]

There's plenty of ammunition and weapons throughout the map, so you have no excuse for not going unarmed. As a countermeasure, take care of your life, as health doesn't abound.
Nobody knows what the tower is for but it's good for sniping, jumping off for fun (beware: you lose up to 50 hp) and a good place to scavenge weapons.
The hut is a typical ski lodge hut. It's nothing special expect for a underwater space (Containing an ASMD) in the back room.
The cracked frozen pond also has ASMD and ASMD cores but it also has some Nali Fruits.

Trivia[]

On the top floor of the tower, there's a Nali statue that can be harmlessly pushed off the edge.
The BioRifle Ammo cartridges are called "GEL cartridges" in this level. They also contain 100 ammo each.

Development[]

Levelshots and player counts for the map were added in the OldUnreal version 227j patch.
The beta versions of this level didn't have the well at all, that was a "last minute" addition.
At least two of the beta versions had an Invisibility item on the roof, there was also a monk statue at the Minigun location and Dispersion Pistolweapon powerups in the frozen lake, plus a ForceField item on the ice. The location of the Super Health Pack changed between the versions also but was always located at the top of the walls.
The fireplace changed texture/appearance multiple times, also until the release version there was a small lift bringing you directly to the Assault Vest location. This was removed when a new lift got placed in the well area that didn't exist beforehand.
The first known/preview version was called TundraX and was part of the ECTS Unreal demo of September 1997 that was shown in the ECTS event and players played LAN deathmatches together in the exclusive event.
