Unreal Tournament 3 |
Meta article |
---|
The following is a meta-article, which explains a concept which usually falls out of one of the wiki's categorizations, yet it's still important to explain something. |
This is a list of easter eggs found across the maps in Unreal Tournament 3.
In general[]
- The binary code on OSC's description (01100010011001010110110001101001011001010111011001100101) translates to "believe".
Map-specific[]
- All the retail official maps have a "flyby" mode which you can go through by inputting the FlyThrough code in the console, at least in UnrealEd. This is also the case with WAR-ColdHarbor and WAR-Downtown_Necris.
- The name of the map CTF-Searchlight as well as that of DM-DarkMatch come from two things from Unreal: the SearchLight item and the DarkMatch gametype.
- CTF-Strident:
- The tubegirls at each base will react every time a flag is captured.
- DM-CarbonFire:
- The greeting banter references Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict's Devastation, a Liandri robot maid turned into a warrior.
- The Liandri robots seen here are the same ones who appear in the various cutscenes in Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict's campaign.
- DM-HeatRay:
- The hologram changes its animation when the Darkwalker arrives and returns to its original animation when the Darkwalker is destroyed. Additionally it plays the humping taunt animation when shooting at the red "TD4" sign below it.
- On one of the walls of the city is a ripped dirty poster, and, if examined closely, you can see its a poster for Unreal Tournament.
- WAR-Dusk:
- The Free Mine layout resembles the default link setup of ONS-Dawn from Unreal Tournament 2004.
References to other works[]
- In addition to the obvious reference to the tripods from The War of the Worlds, the Darkwalker resembles the Strider from Half-Life 2.
- The achievement for beating Act IV of the campaign is called "Not In Kansas Anymore", after The Wizard of Oz.
- The achievement for defeating Akasha in Insane is called "Fear The Reaper", after the song "(Don't) Fear The Reaper", by Blue Öyster Cult.
- Getting the "Combo King" award 15 times awards the "Don't taze me bro!" achievement.
- The Ronin team has "Damn, I'm Good!" as a taunt.
- The Greed gametype is inspired in the Greed mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, which in turn is based on Quake III: Team Arena's Harvester gametype. Given that the UT2004 mod replaces the skulls of Harvester with coins and the UT3 gametype brings the skulls back, it's possible that this game's version of Greed is a mix of both.
- DM-Deimos:
- The name of the map comes from Deimos, the name of one of Mars' two satellites; the other being, of course, Phobos.
- DM-Gateway:
- Jester makes a direct reference to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland after Matrix is fragged the sixteenth time.
- Jester: "All I need is a big cat and I'd be Alice in Wonderland."
