The Hex-Core is an alien race appearing in Unreal II: The Awakening.

Overview[]

The Hex-Core are alien parasites that live in transparent, blue slugs to survive. In turn, the slugs are encased in a kind of cybernetic suit to protect them from harm, allow them mobility, and equip them with prehensile limbs. Ne'Ban is actually a parasite which dwells in some sort of translucent slug, which wears a robotic life-support suit to operate in a human environment.

"I am one of fifty princes, not even in line for the throne."
Ne'Ban

One Hex-Core race member is introduced as a major supporting character, Ne'Ban. From him we learn that the race has an empire which is in a sort of exchange program; since Ne'Ban is part of the royalty, he was sent to a safe place where no harm can come to him. He was put in charge of piloting the TCA Atlantis. His people also know about Aida and the Strider Wars.

When trying to speak to him out of script, one of Ne'Ban's quotes is "Old Hex-Core saying: 'Talk to pilot, go splat.'".

Due to the death of Ne'Ban, who was in the TCA Atlantis when the ship got destroyed by the Dorian Gray at the end of Avalon, it's unknown what is now the relationship between the Terran Colonial Authority (now the New Earth Government) and the Hex-Core royalty.
