"In a KOTH game the object is to find the “hill” and stay on it for as long as you can. KOTH games do not reward frags as the emphasis here is hill time. In order to stay on the hill you will need to defend it against other players/bots who are intent on taking it from you. All KOTH games are time based so don’t spend your time foolishly."

King of the Hill is a gametype found in the Chaos UT mod for Unreal Tournament.

Overview[]

King of the Hill mode is similar to Deathmatch, but it includes some special rules. At the beginning of the match, there is no king. The first player to score a frag becomes the King. While a player is designated as the King, a red glow surrounds them, and they do double damage to all other players. If the king is fragged, the fragger become the new King.

Scoring[]

Scoring is the same as in Deathmatch, with a player gaining a point for fragging another player and losing a point for suicides. Successfully fragging the current king is worth 5 points, and the fragger becomes the new king. King of the Hill can be played under Score and/or Time Limit Rules. The first player to score enough points to reach the score limit, or the player with the most points when the time limit expires, is declared the winner.

Tips and tricks[]

  • A red glow indicates who is the current king.
  • If you are not the king, try to catch the king with a surprise attack. Don't get into a shootout with the king, because they have the advantage of doing double damage.
  • If you are the King, you are everyone's primary target. Watch out for places where you can get ambushed.
