"The Liandri Corporation is a Heavy Industrial and Mining Combine with installations on dozens of planets. They defend their interests with an army of genetically engineered female warriors who have been raised since birth to be fighters. The Liandri Angels are cold, dispassionate, and highly efficient - they're among the elite of industrial mercenary forces."
John Dalton

The Liandri Mining Corporation is a conglomerate in the Unreal series.

Overview[]

The Liandri Mining Corporation is a very large mining company.

They brought the Tournaments in to the mainstream in 2291 when consensual murder was legalized. They did this by tri-casting the tournaments. The first champion of these tournaments is Xan Kriegor who led Liandri's sponsored team - The Corrupt during a long time. He was later replaced by Matrix.

Liandri also created its own combatants for its tournament in Unreal Championship 2 (Devastation, Raptor and Syzygy).

Involvement in the games[]

The Liandri play a major role in almost every Unreal game.

Unreal Tournament[]

Main article: Liandri Grand Tournament

In UT and UT2004, they made the Tournament and manufacture large amounts of teams, such as The Corrupt. Jerl Liandri is only mentioned in this game.

In addition to backing Xan Kriegor, then-current champion, they're involved in several of the Arenas' backstories, or even own them:

  • DM-Oblivion: One of Liandri's armored transport ships, it transports new contestants via hyperspace jump from the Initiation Chambers to their first events on Earth. It also doubles as a combat arena.
  • DM-Stalwart: An old mechanic's garage that Jerl Liandri purchased as a possible tax dump for his then-fledging company, later turned into an arena.
  • DM-Fractal: A converted plasma reactor implied to be Liandri property.
  • DM-Turbine: A decaying water-treatment facility purchased for use in the Tournament.
  • DM-Codex: A library of rare books that had to be abandoned after the constructors discovered a magma flow. It was later sold to Liandri.
  • DM-Pressure: A mining facility housing a booby trap.
  • DM-Grinder: A former smelting facility owned by Liandri.
  • DM-Tempest: A facility built specifically for the Tournament sitting high above the sprawling Reconstructed New York City that doubles as one of Xan Kriegor's personal training arenas.
  • DM-Liandri: A textbook Liandri ore processing facility located at Earth’s Mohorovicic discontinuity roughly below Mexico.
  • DM-Peak: A monastery built by the Nipi monks on Nepal to escape moral degradation, later acquired by Liandri for perfect Tournament conditions.
  • DM-Curse][: A mysterious crypt whose excavation was halted due to lack of funding. Liandri stepped in and struck a deal with the archeologists: allow the location to be included in several key tournament battles and Liandri would fund the remainder of the excavation.
  • DOM-Ghardhen: One of two blast Chambers belonging to Ghardhen Labs. One of the investors of the company, however, was a Liandri scout.
  • DOM-Cryptic: An arena built by the legendary Tournament Master Kilbragh as a personal training facility. After his death, property of it reverted to Liandri.
  • DOM-Cinder: A foundry that had to be shut down after dozens of accidents, later snatched at bargain price by a Liandri scout.
  • DOM-Olden: An ancient temple sacred to the race that built it, the Liandri snatched it and used for Tournament battles.
  • DOM-Sesmar: A historical landmark owned by Liandri despite worldwide protests.
  • CTF-EternalCave: A series of ruins belonging to an unknown race acquired by Liandri Corporation’s Xenobiology Division for research and excavation.
  • CTF-Gauntlet: An arena specifically designed for the Tournament and customized for team games.
  • CTF-Command: A fully functional nuclear processing station owned by Liandri.
  • CTF-Hydro16: An enormous hydroelectric plant used to power the colonies on Vesuvius 9 until a mysterious virus killed everyone off; it was later acquired by Liandri.
  • CTF-Orbital: A dual-sided space station with much of its functionality left incomplete due to funding ran out due to corrupt contractors and irresponsible administrators. Liandri snatched it at discount price.
  • AS-HiSpeed: A 200 mph high speed train refitted by Liandri for Tournament purposes.
  • AS-OceanFloor: A deep sea research station built by universities around Earth that almost ran out of money. Liandri stepped in and funded the research in exchange for the station to be used for Tournament battles.
  • AS-Overlord: The recreation of the Normandy landings in WWII, Liandri style.
  • DM-Zeto: A frozen outpost converted into a Tournament arena as an attempt to recoup financial losses from a failed research station on the arctic moon of Coret.

They're also involved in several character backstories:

  • Arkoth 24 had his memories lost during Liandri conditioning.
  • Nikki's introduction mentions that the Liandri doesn't like civilians participate in the Tournament, requiring expensive sums of cash just for them to participate.
  • Bart's bio, on the other hand, mentions that the Liandri found that spectators would pay large sums of money to see economists and "other social vermin" such as lawyers take a beating.
  • The Liandri Tournament is also a way to escape punishment, as revealed in the bios of Fuego, Genghis, Botanika, Slasher and Toe Cutter.
  • Some other participants are trying to make their ends by joining the Tournament such as Anna (no relationship with the Dark Phalanx member).
  • Other participants were put into the Tournament by Liandri against their will such as Gilfred, Tajheri and Leeb.
  • The Liandri Rules Board also has a policy of "don't ask-don't tell" regarding drug usage, as revealed on the bios for Darhl.
  • "Incompetent Liandri management in the depths of Vulcana 32" is the reason why Annaka joined Thunder Crash, as she wants the team to be successful so she can enact a class-action lawsuit against the Corporation.
  • Lauren, from the Iron Guard team, suspects Liandri to be behind the assassination of Jihan Nyhn.
  • Anna, from the Dark Phalanx team, is an ex black ops runner for the New Earth Government who deserted and now wants to take it down alongside the Liandri.
  • The members of the Black Legion team believe that conquering the Tournament will give them complete control of Liandri operations. Since the team is selectable when the player creates their avatar, this means this is their ending.
  • Mariana, from the Blood Reavers team, feels herself betrayed by the N.E.G. and Liandri, and joined the team for that reason.
  • According to the console versions, The Corrupt is Liandri's sponsored team, entirely made up of the best advanced A.I.s that the corporation's wealth can buy, and features the reigning Tournament Champion, Xan Kriegor, as its leader.

Unreal II: The Awakening[]

Main article: Liandri Angels

In Unreal II: The Awakening, Liandri is one of the many factions seeking the power of the artifacts. It's revealed they have their own mercenaries, known as Liandri Angels, an all-female force of warriors trained from birth. One of the artifacts was discovered by the Lima Six mining facility on Sanctuary. The station later came under attack by the Skaarj and their Izarian slaves, and many miners were killed in the attack, including Danny Miller.

Sometime after the Lima Six incident, Liandri began actively seeking the other artifacts, and showed hostility to the TCA. They deployed the Angels onto Kalydon in attempt to steal the artifacts from the TCA Atlantis while it was being repaired, but TCA Marshall John Dalton successfully fended off their assault. Liandri Angels later appeared on Janus, where both them and the Izanagi's Ghost Warriors raided the Axon Polaris Base to steal the two artifacts that were present there. Both factions ultimately failed in their attempts to secure the artifacts.

Unreal Tournament 2004[]

Main article: Liandri Grand Tournament
Main article: LBX-7683 Robot Uprising

The Liandri once again organizes the Tournament, and their sponsored team, The Corrupt makes a comeback as one of the three teams to face in the finals.

Several of Unreal Tournament 2004's Assault maps are based on past events involving the Liandri:

Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict[]

Liandri commercialised the Nakhti's traditional emperor-choosing ritual, re-engineering it and covering it in the style of the main Tournament (referred to in UC2 as the Liandri Grand Tournament). Their arrival and politic has various effects on Nakhti society and the characters in the game.

The description of the arenas also reveal more Liandri properties:

Unreal Tournament 3[]

In UT3 they play a larger role. Their robots are the main enemies for Chapter 3 of the Campaign, and the leader of their team is Matrix. They also own the region of Hyperion, which is where many of the arenas take place:

Unreal Tournament 4[]

Once again, the Liandri returns as the main organizer of the Tournaments, and are even involved in some of the backstories:

  • CTF-Blank: Property of Liandri, its board allowed the arena to be used for sanctioned practice matches.
  • CTF-Face: While the description doesn't mention Liandri, the team towers have the Liandri logo inside of them.
  • CTF-Pistola: Used during the 7-Day Siege, it was an extensive bunker system through the hollows of the Pistola Mountain Range with the intention of securing key assets and provide safe avenues for the transport of wartime infrastructure. It was later turned into an arena.
  • CTF-TitanPass: It's mentioned that the Liandri were playing both sides in the Pangol-Verans conflict until one of them (the Pangol) survived but are now subsisting as underpaid miners.
  • DM-BioTower: Used to be a Liandri bio research facility, later converted into an arena designed for Bio Rifle practice.
  • DM-Outpost23: A remote Outpost established to collect and refine resources from the Outland Territories, as the region is extremely rich in rare mineral deposits.
  • DM-Salt: As part of Liandri's "Heritage Program", Liandri acquired this site from the monks that inhabited it with the intention of preserving it. Liandri, however, did not specify why the site was being preserved for.
  • DM-Spacer: An arena sold to Liandri as an attempt to recover the initial inversion costs from its original owners.
  • DM-Unsaved: Yet another arena sold to Liandri.

In this installment, the Liandri are also a weapons dealing company, with their logo being found in several of them such as the Flak Cannon and the Rocket Launcher. Also, at least in concept art pieces, the same is true of the Impact Hammer.
