Overview

The subject of this article appeared in Unreal Tournament 2004.

"Set among the crumbling ruins of the last Nali fortress, these icefields were the final stand of the Nali against the Skaarj. Driving their Stone Giants before them, the Skaarj lay siege to the city for three weeks, at last breaking down the perimeter wall and wiping out all within for their effrontery. Now an arena of Onslaught, the vast range of this location will test the teamwork and focus of the very best."

Dria four nodes

Four Nodes link setup.

Set on a frozen river on the surface of Na Pali, ONS-Dria's landscape is vast and barren. While the river "divides" the terrain vertically, a large wall does so horizontally, dividing the map into 4 sections, each of which has 2 powernodes with the powercores in the north-west and south-east sections. Distances are long and obstructions are few, making vehicles a necessity. Luckily, Dria boasts one of the largest arsenals in vehicles of any ONS map.

There are 2 ways to cross the river through connected powernodes. These cross near the center of the map near a pair of large, long bridge (the main landmark and chokepoint of the map). Although obtaining the powernode on the other side's riverbanks can give a fair advantage, it is not a guarantee to win the round. There's plenty more vehicular power at the various other nodes which which the disadvantaged team can fight back.

We'll give the nodes present in the map the following names:

  • Blue West Prime: The node located southwest of the Blue Base/Power Core.
  • Blue East Prime: The node located east of the Blue Base/Power Core.
  • Blue Middle Node: The node located in the middle of the map, at the Blue side.
  • Blue Support Node: The node located in the southwest corner of the map.
  • Red Support Node: The node located in the northeast corner of the map.
  • Red Middle Node: The node located in the middle of the map, at the Red side.
  • Red North Prime: The node located north of the Red Base/Power Core.
  • Red West Prime: The node located west of the Red Base/Power Core.

Link Setups[]

  • Default: Each Power Core is connected to a Prime Node: Blue's is connected to Blue West Prime while Red's is connected to Red North Prime. From here on, there are two paths that don't cross: Blue West Prime -> Blue East Prime -> Red West Prime -> Red North Prime and Blue West Prime -> Blue Middle Node -> Red Middle Node -> Red North Prime. In addition, the Blue Middle Node is connected to the Blue Support Node, and the Red Middle Node is connected to the Red Support Node.
  • Four Nodes: As its name implies, only four nodes are in play. with two possible paths. Path 1 is Blue Power Core -> Blue West Prime -> Red North Prime -> Red Power Core. Path 2 is Blue Power Core -> Blue East Prime -> Red West Prime' -> Red Power Core.

Tips and tricks[]

Prima Official Guide[]

"A massive and relatively flat area of arctic tundra, Dria is extremely accessible from the air. The four PowerNodes on each side present a number of pathways to the other side. Although the main battles often occur on a bridge, the frozen lake allows anyone to quickly travel anywhere. This allows greater opportunities for domino-style PowerNode-linking of empty or enemy PowerNodes.

Home Base
Your base has a core inside a building to the right of a huge tower. A teleport at the tower's base allows you to reach a sniper rifle. This base offers vehicles, a 50 shield pack in an outbuilding near one of the exits, and some fine turrets. The base's core can be breached only if PowerNode #1 is taken. Keep a sizable force at PowerNode #1, then retreat into the base if that falls.

PowerNode 1
Claim and keep this important PowerNode. It allows access to the base core, PowerNode #2 near the frozen lake (allowing easy access to the opponents' PowerNode #4), and PowerNode #3 near the bridge (charge across the bridge or over the lake to the opponents' PowerNode #3). Keep a skeletal patrol over here in case of attack; otherwise, press on.

PowerNode 2
Take PowerNode #2, which links to the opposing team's PowerNode #2. After claiming this, push your foes to PowerNode #1 and then the base. It's easy to reach and links to PowerNode #1. Take this only if you're planning on a shorter attempt to tear through your opponents' PowerNodes.

PowerNode 3
PowerNode #3, each on one side of the frozen lake, offers the biggest vehicles and firepower. If you want an all-out war, start your construction here. It links to the opposite PowerNode #3, PowerNode #4, and PowerNode #1. Grab two health packs if the combat is incessant. Once you own the area, man two turrets on your side of the river, and blast the opposing turrets (turrets don't respawn). This is the quickest way to a Goliath tank and the 100 shield pack.

PowerNode 4
The final PowerNode, accessed via PowerNode #3, offers another tank and a couple more vehicles to bolster your troops at PowerNode #3. For example, force the Goliath at PowerNode #3 over the bridge or across the lake while bringing the tank at PowerNode #4 forward to guard PowerNode #3. The PowerNode is huge (don't mistake it for your base). Find a target painter on a tower accessed via Raptor or teleport (the teleport is at the tower's base near two health packs).

PowerNode to Joy: Planning Victory
Multiple PowerNodes and an open environment spells multiple tactics for the team leader. Start by taking PowerNode #1, but first decide whether to attack from PowerNode #3 (a longer match but with more firepower), or PowerNode #2 (a quick resolution but less offensive force). Either way, send out a Raptor pilot.
Take a Manta, Raptor, or Scorpion to PowerNode #2 while the rest of the team links PowerNode #1. Quickly build #2 and cross to the opposite PowerNode #2 for a quick claim and a push to victory. A safer plan is to push most of your force at PowerNode #1. Have the Raptor pilot zoom to PowerNode #3 or #4 to claim the target painter, and then back to start PowerNode linking, and then fly a final mission to use the target painter.
Don't underestimate PowerNode #4 either; it’s easy to access and provides an extra tank that's handy for battling at the bridge. As soon as PowerNode #3 is taken, place two teammates on the turrets and destroy the opposite turrets.
Finally, the frozen lake provides several "interference run" opportunities using a Scorpion, Manta, or even a sizeable force. Head only toward areas that link to your PowerNodes to avoid spreading your forces too thin. Drive along the hillsides in Scorpions or Hellbenders to ease your journey through wooded areas. Breach your opponents' base by driving a Hellbender around the side of the entrance and behind the core building; shoot through the windows or from the hill opposite the tower. This provides a useful distraction."

The map is split in half at the center, guarded by several turrets on each side -- make sure your side is protected before venturing across!"
