Prima Official Guide[]

"This small practice map is the key to winning victories on larger zones. Choke points do exist. You can't fly over hills, there are no Raptors, and the paths are flat. Split your forces to gain extra firepower (and closer spawning points) by taking and holding your PowerNode #1, without being overrun in the middle, where a base-blasting Goliath tank is the reward.

Home Base
At the dead end of a clearing, the home base can be attacked only from the energy turret. Push forward all the way (or to the weapons lockers if you're on foot) and use your vehicles as a barrier. Man the turret to prevent the enemy overrunning your base. Your opponent can claim either your PowerNode #1 or the middle PowerNode and then attack.

PowerNode 1
Although the route to this point is confusing (particularly to the blue team), you head through the middle PowerNode to reach this forest clearing by only one path—the way you came in. This PowerNode offers some quick-moving vehicles, but don't take it until the middle PowerNode is yours.

Middle PowerNode
Most of the fighting starts here, as both teams vie for the Goliath. Find the two health packs near the PowerNode, and use the trees as cover as you defend this PowerNode.

PowerNode to Joy: Planning Victory
This small level provides hours of enjoyment for novice tacticians. Each base has only one entrance, but you can blast a base if any PowerNodes are linked. Most combat occurs in the middle.
You risk being overrun (or shot) if you advance to PowerNode #1 while most of your force attempts the middle PowerNode. If you leave a player at your PowerNode #1 and get all respawning teammates to appear here, they can reach the middle faster. Use your Hellbender to wreak havoc in the middle, then claim the Goliath and add a turret operator to prevent foes from advancing on your base."

Offense[]

  • The central node has the only Goliath on the map, so rushing the center will get your team an advantage. If the enemy gets there first, go to the top or bottom nodes to find an AVRiL.

Trivia[]

Popularity[]

Main article: Annex:Unreal Tournament 2004 Final Stats
  • Until the stats for the game were shut down, the map held the distinction of being the eighth most played UT2004 map of all-time, with over 384.000 matches.[1]

Preview Notes[]

"The only forest-based map in Onslaught, "Primeval" is a tight, smallish map with only three power nodes. Although point 3 is clearly the choke point of the map, points 1 and 2 are just as important, as this is where you (or your enemy) will spawn reinforcements to fight for the center node -- lose that point, and you'll have enemies swarming your base in no time."
