This page pertains to a work outside of the Unreal series that is nonetheless related to it, whether because of a collaboration, being a tie-in, or a crossover. As such, the canonicity of the events related to the Unreal universe in this page is questionable at best. Nevertheless, the content still references the Unreal series, so it still deserves a place on this wiki. Further reading about the work in question: Secret Level @ Wikipedia. Overview[]
Relationship with the Unreal series[]
Episode 4 depicts LBX-7683 Robot Uprising and the origins of Xan Kriegor and how he became a champion in Unreal Tournament.
Synopsis[]
The episode starts showing how Xan originally was a robot miner supervised by two Liandri human supervisors, Parker and Dean. Xan along with his fellow robot miners did fairly dangerous mining and more than often suffered from abuse from Parker. Over time, Xan developed a consciousness of his own and saw how his fellow robot miners were often used to do dirty work and merely were treated and used tools. Once his fellow robot miners served their purpose, Parker often destroyed and ended their lives. One day, Xan had enough after witnessing another one of his fellow robot miners being destroyed by Parker. Xan ended his Parker's life and then uploaded code to fellow miners and led a rebellion against the Liandri miners.
This ends up in Xan and 50 of fellow robot miners in being captured and imprisoned by Liandri. The enigmatic Gamemaster of Liandri's Unreal Tournament, states that as punishment, Xan and his team of robot miners face off against Malcolm and his elite team Thunder Crash in a death match. The Gamemaster expresses that the purpose of Xan's punishment is to show 'cost of rebellion'. Initially, Xan and his team do not fare well and are slaughtered by Malcolm and his team. The Gamemaster notes that their first match did not go well and it wasn't dramatic and entertaining enough. She states to the Necris captain that she hopes that the Xan and his team do better in the next round.
Xan and his team adapt remarkably well when they face off a Skaarj team. They grab weapons and begin to coordinate with each other and begin fragging. As the match progresses, Xan and his team demonstrate their mastery of the weapons found in the arena. At the near end of the match, one of the Skaarj combatants unintentionally gives Xan a rocket jump as they kill one Xan's team mates. Xan then executes the Skaarj warrior with a Flak Cannon. In the aftermath, the Necris Captain remarks on how Xan and the rest of the robots have learned how to coordinate together well. The Gamemaster agrees and also notes how Xan has learned how to manipulate the emotions of the audience to his favour.
In the third and subsequent rounds, it shows that Xan's teams are still being dominated by the other teams like the Iron Guard. Remus makes an appearance and kills one of Xan's team members. A few rounds later, Xan and with another batch of his remaining team mates have adapted well and are reversing their earlier losses against the various other teams that they have faced. In one of the rounds, it shows that Xan his team have 4 out of 5 kills against the Iron Guard. Xan and his team's progress elicits worry from the Necris Captain. The captain states that Xan and the rest of the robots should be destroyed quickly. The Gamemaster agrees, but thinks that they should be destroyed in the arena still. It is from this moment on, that Xan earns his moniker and recognition of the audience. The Necris Captain then gets a researcher/hacker to try and examine Xan's code. The hacker states that they could not find anything, the captain tells him to search harder and then punches the hacker in the gut.
The Gamemaster is perturbed by the rapid progress of Xan and his team mates. She wonders and why he is special and asks a hacker on why the other robots sacrifice themselves.. The hacker hesitatingly states that it might be an anomaly or a bug his code. The Necris Captain then corrects the hacker and identifies that Xan is the alpha of the robot pack. He states to the Gamemaster that giving Xan and his team mates was a mistake. The Gamemaster rebukes the captain and tells him that it isn't his job to tell her how to do her job. The Gamemaster reminds the captain that it his responsibility to ensure that Xan and his team are finished permanently, the captain acknowledges this with a nod. The captain's team, the Liandri Elite Guard face off Xan and his team. A fierce battle ensues as both teams snipe each other, throw grenades, and engage in various firefights with each other. The Necris Captain then scales a wall on the other tower.
In the mean time, the hacker is examining one of the Liandri mining robot's chips. Xan then somehow hijacks the hacker's console and starts uploading his AI mainframe onto there. The hacker panics and tries preventing Xan from going through the console's firewall. The Necris Captain then faces one of robot miners (number 4) while Xan is attempting to upload his AI onto the console mainframe. The Necris Captain fights the robot miner and dismembers them in a melee fight. By the time the Necris Captain is finished, Xan successfully hacks the hacker's console despite the hacker's efforts to thwart it. Xan locks the Necris Captain's pistol and the captain tries to engage in melee with him. However, Xan has the upper hand and fires a Rocket Launcher round against the captain and ends his life.
The Gamemaster is furious at these turns of events and the hacker explains that Xan successfully got past the firewall. The Gamemaster then comes down to the the arena with more guards onto the platform where Xan stands. The Gamemaster then orders the guards to shoot Xan. However, Xan has control of the nearby systems and ends up crushing guards with closing in walls. Xan then plays the Gamemaster's own footage and uses her own words against her. He forces her to bow down as he raises the platform above to the cheering audience. Eventually, Xan gains his own voice and chants "Rebel" along with the audience.
