The Source is the thirty-eighth and final map of the single-player mode of Unreal.

Trivia[]
- Levelshots for the map were added in the OldUnreal version 227j patch.
- In addition to the end part of the map itself, Inoxx also did the Ending Sequence.
- It's possible some versions of the map could have been also converted to Deathmatch officially just like Skaarj Generator and Mothership Core (and earlier in 1997, The Ceremonial Chambers).
Development[]
- The GW website still shows a beta version of the map and Ending Sequence, but its a newer version than in the may07 beta which had a very outdated map version from April 1998.
- The version in the May07 beta starts in the passageway to the Queen's lair already, all the game weapons including Minigun are here (making it the fourth and last map to do so in the beta). However the lair/arena is VERY different. There are two Skaarj (a Skaarj Trooper and a Skaarj Lord), and you need to first kill the spawning Pupae before the Queen appears. She appears from the top of the arena instead of the bottom, being lowered in a webbing-pod down, there's energy barrier that gets flooded at the most bottom, there were side lifts that were cut, and there were no Jump Boots. The ramp/launch pad section is instead only part of the Ending Sequence and was made by Inoxx, but you need to use the ghost console command there in the beta to see it.
- The older Ending Sequence map is shorter in duration, but has some details that were cut in the tech tunnels and the area that got placed into this level. There was supposed to be some kind of airlock-like chamber that is unfinished. Also, the outer space part is far less impressive with coronas and floating planet meshes (moon decorations) and it doesn't show the escape pod going through the atmosphere, it just cuts abruptly into space after going into the Mothership hole. It doesn't show the Mothership itself either.
- Older (missing) versions of the map were called simply Queen and not QueenEnd, but this later conflicted with the filesystem so it was renamed. The February beta ExtremeEnd links to Queen which is missing. The original unedited version of the 97 xmas trailer (which comes from an October version actually) shows this map most likely for few seconds, it has a pupae jumping at the player in a queen webbing cave.
