XMP-Freefall (whose full name is FreeFall) is a map appearing in Unreal II: The Awakening .

Map description Edit

A map set in an asteroid belt, in outer space. As expected, gravity in the level is very low. As usual, both bases are at opposite extremes of the entire asteroid belt, although due to the openness of the map, there's little to no protection. Each base has the Artifact Node sandwiched between two asteroids (Red/Blue Artifact Node, upper and lower asteroids have also location names: Above/Below Red/Blue Base), team-locked deploy points (Red/Blue Forward Deploy, Red/Blue Rear Deploy) and two Minigun Turrets.

Middle area has a series of hollow asteroids holding deploy points (Red/Blue Central Deploy), energy sources (Red/Blue Side Generator), and more turrets (Red/Blue Side Mini Turret). The central asteroid ([Above/Below] Central Asteroid) houses the most powerful turret, so taking control of it becomes mandatory. Finally, the asteroids between the Central Asteroid and the team bases also have names: Red/Blue Halfway Point.

Due to the map's layout, there are no vehicles, other than turrets.

Tips and tricks Edit

  • Control of the energy sources is even more important than ever in this map. You can't use the turrets across the map if you don't own them.

Trivia Edit

  • The miniturrets are similar to the Minigun Turrets from Unreal Tournament 2004, though they predate them. In the same vein, the Giant Turret in the center is reminiscent of the Ion Cannon from the same game, and that too predates it.
